The ARC Training Centre for Medical Implant Technologies (ARC CMIT) hosted a two-day visit of the National Medical Products Administration of China (formerly known as China Food and Drug Administration) and Beijing Naton Medical Group.
The visit included a full day workshop that provided PhD students and researchers of ARC CMIT and Melbourne School of Engineering the opportunity to understand the regulatory requirements of medical implants in China.
Discussions were focused on the
- Development and application of smart structures of 3D printed medical devices;
- Advances and challenges of 3D printing technology in orthopaedics;
- Evaluation of the safety and efficacy of 3D printed personalised implants; and
- Establishment of a quality evaluation system for 3D printed medical implants.
Further meetings are planned for 2020.
